Orite all.......?
As some of you might already no i race karts on a national level....
and this is my new one for this year......
its a 125cc watercooled single cylinder 2stroke rotax max on a Kosmic T8 chassis.
my other kart that i raced last year was a 250cc twin cylinder 4stroke which needed no
maintance at all, but this new 2stroke is much more difficult to set up because of all the
different things you can change like, jets in the carbs, needle possition, fuel mixtures and so on, so it is taking a while to get used to it.

Nice Ive been looking for a new kart lately aswell, the TKM is getting quite old now lol.
Been looking at 125 gearboxes, I find them more fun lol and harder to drive.
What have you done with the Billand ?

Ah sweet....a 125 gearbox is insane a mate of mine races one (hes called Daffydd to lol)
and ive driven it a few times, totally awsome, gives you wiplash everytime you change gear lol
The biland is still in my garage..but it is sold just waiting for the gezza tha bought it to pick it up

Looks nice, congratulations on coming 3rd. Can't say I know much about karts, but what would the advantage be of going from a 250 to a 125?, seems abit of a strange thing to do especially when you said the old one was easier to maintain.

i would guess its because the 125 is lighter and has a carb, maybe?

I'm guessing the 250 would be more powerful though, more than enough to make up for the extra weight, but then again I know shit about them.

the 250 was a 4 stroke and had a lot of low range torque so pulled up the revs well..so there wasnt much strain on the engine.
where as because the 125 is a 2 stroke it needs to be reving to produce its speed/power so there is much more strain on the parts in the engine...
its almost like comparing petrol and diesel cars.
because of the strain the 125 needs to be rebuilt every 12hours and the 250 would last 300 hours without an engine rebuild.

I see, must have missed the four stroke bit, clears things up abit. What I still don't get is why an engine that needs to be revved higher is advantageous, maybe I'm just being abit thick and need to listen more in my engineering lesons.

There just different engines, 2 strokes always rev higher than 4 strokes its how there made.
2 different ways of producing power.
2 strokes pistons go up and down 2 times for every one time the engine fires so it revs quicker.
4 stroke pistons go up and down 4 times for every fire being less powerful at the same cc.
So basically he can have a smaller cc and achieve the same speeds and acceleration, so hes not stepping down a class just changing.
its like V-tec versus V-6 lol.

I know that, funnily I only seem to be the only one at my engineering that does, I just never really took into consideration that four bangers produced less power thn the equivalant two stroke. Cheers for clearing that up, I know I can be abit difficult to explain things to at times.

Engines stuff is always gay to explain lol, but yeah 4 strokes produce less power per stroke because its shared out.
Is it lol.
yeah in a very vague way, a Vtec/2stoke revs higher and its more responsive etc v6/4stroke doesnt rev quite as high but they have low range torque.
i dunno it just sprang to mind when i was reading what you and Tom wrote lol
