lil tip - fuck the cars off, buildings/environments is a much easier job which is what i've gone into now :) go out, take pics of buildings, and create a texture from it (1024sq) then model it, under 3k polies :)

do them, and you'll get any job ya want :)

dude if you want a quick portfolio...then may i suggest mapping for half life? create maps either for counter strike or cs:source, either way its easy, and its 3d!!!

Mapping is not 3D.

3D..no?

I thought you meant 3D mapping, ie applying textures to models.

Not the act of creating game levels.

A game map.... Hmmm.

A game map.... Hmmm.

1 average sized building for 360 = 4 days from scratch, from photos.

so sort out photos, take out all perspective, any objects in foreground i.e trees, people, cars, anything, remove reflections from windows and replace a plain believable one, make everything completely perpendicualr so extruding windows/doors is easier, then create texture map from bits fixed in PS keeping everything the same texel resolution and having no gaps on the map, include the main building parts, any fences/railings, doors/windows, interiors, alpha out the windows, then create specular map from the texture map which means change the whole map to different colours of white to black, dependant on material reflectivity, then make the bump map for the building, painting the whole thing greyscale - whitest parts appear extruded outwards most and blackest parts appear extruded inwards most and then generate the normal map from the bump map

then model everything, and map the whole thing - then you have to sort out the second channel of UV's so when you bake the whole building, not one poly overlaps

then send it off xD

have fun making a whole city
