For some reason my mouse has been acting up the past couple of days, the curser keeps moving by itself, i dont know why its the 1st time this has happened to me!!, and its really ANNOYING!
Its a wired Sony Optical Mouse, ive done the usual like cleaning the lense, cleaning the surface, and tried to use the mouse on a piece of plain white paper, AND, the sodding thing still moves by itself!
also checked for spyware, and ran the antivirus and its clean as a whistle!
updated the USB drivers and have the latest Hyperion Drivers.
Im running Windows XP Pro, with SP2 installed, never had this problem before, so if anyone can shed some light on how to stop this annoying problem please feel free to help!!, otherwise the whole computer is going out of the window!!!! :x

Had the same mouse and same problem! But got annoyed threw it at the wall, it broke.
Now i have a dell mouse, that does exactly the same :(
could it be interfearence from other wires around the back of your computer.. try moving the reciever closer to the mouse.. myn sits ontop of my computer.. then press the reset buttons .. see if that helps.

Mine was doing that too, I found it was reflecting the laser onto the desk back into itself and messing up.
Try using a mousepad. :)

I no this my sound silly, But do you have a graphics tablet?
Same thing happened to me, only i found it that the mouse that came with my graphics tablet had been placed back on it, nack that control the mouse instead of the mouse i was moving controlling it.
Probably isnt the same problem your having, but worth a shot :p

If you get a mouse mat, i garuntee that problem will go away.
I had a similar problem a while ago, although i didn't find out untill i bought a ball mouse again. Basically, the "lazer" thingy is bouncing off your desk and signing back up into the lense, which is causing the irratic movements...

Na sorry gary lad it aint that, the mouse has been working fine for 2yrs without a mouse mat, ive just pulled all USB devices out, so the mouse is just left in now, its stopped moving, so somewhere down the line its conflicting with another USB device, god knows what, as i dont have a pen tablet or any other pointing device, i'll work it out but its definatley hardware related!!...somewhere down the line..

Are you using it on a glass surface? I was using mine of the glass shelf part of the desk and it would jump around

it could be vibrations on your desk, possibly if you have a good set of speakers with a sub?
