Boot files

My laptop has stoped recognising where to boot from, and is arsing about with whether the hdd is in or not, so where can I get the boot files from to put onto a disk to boot from? Its important that I get it working without re-setting the hdd and wiping everything, since I have stuff on there I need.

First thing I tried Ash lad, I've pressed F2 more times than I can remember getting this bastard to work, to no avail.

I should also point out that my laptop is not recognising the fact that there is the hdd there, the BIOS says its disabled.
